I'm planning a roadtrip for 6 months in South America. I've never done such a long trip before and feel pretty stressed about it... What would be your advice to stay calm and enthuasiast about it?

What’s stressing you out? Is it the budgeting? Planning? Leaving home behind? I’d try to pinpoint exactly what’s causing you anxiety. Some overall tips would be: 1) Have a realistic budget in mind but make sure you have a safety net to lessen any anxiety. If you’re travelling in a van/RV you’re already saving tons of money, which is amazing. In each destination be sure to compare prices and look for deals to ensure you’re on budget. 2) Planning – are you someone who likes to plan or are you more go with the flow? Don’t feel like you have to plan everything (I prefer not to!) I’d say be flexible and allow for tons of free time. You can plan major things (i.e. Inca trail where that has to be planned months in advance) and have an idea of things you want to do, but things will come as you explore and meet new people, and that’s all part of the journey. It can be pretty overwhelming to think about the 6 months away, but once you have any major activities booked, healthcare taken care of (i.e. any medication/shots/etc.), I’d try to take it day by day as much as possible. It may not seem like it now, but it will go by SO fast and you’ll be wishing you had more time. Try to have no expectations, and just be open to what the journey will present you. If you’re still feeling anxious some meditation is always helpful. You are going to have the best time!
