White sandy beach and crystal blue seas are hallmarks of this gorgeous Hawaiian island. But where are the best spots to don your snorkel mask and fins to view the isle’s many tropical fish (and, if you’re lucky, sea turtles)? In general, South Maui offers the best snorkeling spots, but West Maui has a few as well.
On the north side a Pu’u Ola’I in Makena, Black Sand Beach is accessed by a short bumpy dirt road. The waters are calm, and if you swim out and head to the left, there’s lots of coral, fish and, hopefully, you may even spot a turtle.
